Quick and easy guide. Every author must read this book to understand each step of KDP publishing. This book is useful, particularly, in formating.

This means that the book will appear properly on Kindle and on phones, IPads and other platforms. There is a lot of this data already on the publishing pages on line so the books are not obligatory but if you read them you have a better chance of getting it right. If like me you are sick and tired of waiting for publishers to even return your manuscript in stamped addressed envelopes if they don't want it, or weary of waiting for a reply to your e-mailed enquiry, then take matters into your own hands. Become a more professional publisher than the publishers. There are a lot of sites out there trying to charge you for all kinds of services so you can spend thousands before your book ever hits the net or the printed page. Don't use any of them. Friends will help proofread if you need it, check all data, even items you are sure of, take good photos for the cover or use an image from the selection available on Kindle. You don't need an agent, or a publisher, who mainly take your money and tell you to do the publicity. Publishing houses are great for well-established authors who want to get into every bookshop but they are very, very bad at giving new talent a chance. You don't need their permission. Read this book and see how simple it is. Go do it.

"Building Your Book for Kindle", written and freely provided by the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) people, is an excellent step-by-step guide to the world of self-publishing for Kindle. I've downloaded several dozen similar books, and read at least parts of all of them, but this one stands out head and shoulders above the rest. Following the simple guides included in this booklet, I have now uploaded and published my first official short story for Kindle! Time will tell if the good advice will translate into good sales, but my confidence level is about 90 points higher than it was before I came across this guide. If you are already successfully writing and publishing for Kindle, you may know all this stuff already. But on the off chance there is some useful tidbit you've overlooked, the book is free. There's no downside! Get the book, read it, and even if you discover that you DID know every single fact in the book, at least you now have an added layer of confidence in your abilities. What's not to love? For the rest of us, this is a worthwhile addition to our growing book collections.

If you're working with Word, this is probably a helpful guide. If you're not, they pretty much direct you to start over in Word. I used WordPerfect x8 which has PDF publishing as well as MOBI and EPUB functions. The PDF worked well for paperback editions of my book, the MOBI worked well for Kindle, and EPUB worked well for Kobo. However, Barnes & Noble Nook Publishing would not accept my EPUB file. I had to pull my WordPerfect document into Word, clean up all the weird codes (page numbering turned to hieroglyphics, every time I had a hard return and a space it made a hard page break, etc.), then mark it for the table of contents. It took about 6 hours and was annoying, but B&N immediately accepted the Word file and published my ebook.

Indispensable for this beginning eBook author I chose 5 stars because of the clarity of the instructions. I would recommend this for any beginning eBook author. What I like most is the fact I can publish an eBook for very little money. Caveat emptor: some website warned me not to go for free ISBN's. (Was that Bowler?) More research needed; also the increased earning and saving of my money!

Why didn’t I do this earlier The author has done a very good job identifying the steps necessary to self publish a Kindle book. I feel much more confident that I can now publish my own book. I would definitely recommend this book.

Thank you so much! Thank you so much KDP, I'm just a newbie and sad to say I'm using my phone when uploading a manuscript that's why it's all messy. Now, I have to do it at the net cafe to make things right. Thank you so much.
