5 OMG It's Hunter's Book!! Stars *Spoilers* Deeper Than Midnight was so damn Good! OMG Hunter hands down is my favorite hero in the whole series so far. I just want to lick him all over! I mean OMG seriously he was so dayum yummy and kickass and just all around amazing. A stone cold killer, He thought he had all his emotions beat out of him, until he met Corinne. One of my favorite things to read is Ice men melting for the love of a woman. So needless to say Breed born assassin Hunter gave me all 5 OMG It's Hunter's Book!! One of my favorite things to read is Ice men melting for the love of a woman. So needless to say Breed born assassin Hunter gave me all the feels. He was so protective of Corinne. His Breed power was so cool. Blood reading so far is the best power of the series. When he had to relive the torture and rapes that Corinne went through as a prisoner of Dragos and lost it on one of the bad guys, I totally swooned. Corinne was also amazing and a worthy mate for my Hunter. She was strong and had a fire that Dragos couldn't put out. She was never broken no matter how much she lived through. I heart broke for all that Corinne suffered. Then to learn that her father betrayed her to Dragos not once but twice. I was so glad her dad got killed! Hunter had never even kissed a woman. Lust was a weakness that wasn't allowed for the trained killer. Corinne had only known rape and torture. So when they got together not only was it smoking hot, it felt very deep as well. I loved how devoted Corinne was to her son. I love that she fought for him and freed him. I also loved that Hunter was so supportive of his mate. He knew how bad the odds were of her finding and saving her son. Still he tried with everything in him to give her, her heart's desire. Chase was losing his shit this whole book. Falling off the wagon straight into blood lust. He was running around outta control and snacking on every human near by. I was worried Chase was a lost cause, but he showed some of the old Chase that I fell in love with at the end of the book. Then Lara Adrian cut to a cliffhanger. A damn cliffhanger!!!!!! To top off the cliffy the book didn't give me a ending for Corinne, Hunter, and Nathan. I want to see how everyone acts about Hunter taking a mate. Guess I will have to jump straight into the next book and see what happens next. Though this is my second time reading the series I can't remember what happens after Hunter's book.

Finally!!! I'm done reading this headache killer of a book. Basically, I didn't feel anything at all. The beginning went well but after that, it just completely died. Constantly going on and on about her son the BAM "I love Hunter"!!! 4. Too much of Chase concerns popping up...(still think this should have been Chase's book instead if he kept coming in with problems) 5. Terrible ending!!!!! Basically, I only give little credit for this book. The serious is seriously going down hill with these recycled female characters. Maybe if some NEW breedmate was put in, then maybe the serious can gain some spark back. Did that ever cross the mind??? ~Before reading~ Hunter is my top favorite Breed in the series and I am so excited. Only one little problem. The female. Again with continuing a woman from the previous story??? Not cool any more. That is what kills the next story!! Corinne should have never come up again. This should have been a different woman with something different. Like Hunter finds some/helps some female on the streets or something. If there was going to be a related woman from previous books, fine. But make it something like a friend of the first or second books. I pray Hunter does break Corinne's heart now. But knowing the book and whos in it now, that is not going to happen. Links in anyway kills stories for the up coming book of the previous book. Especially if its a female that is the link.

Deeper than Midnight. What is going on with numerous reviews and fellow GR peeps telling me that this wasn’t all it was expected to be? Personally I think you should all give your selves a slap in the face. I will excuse this infringement and say you all have been in a book funk, because I thought this book rocked. It was easily one of my fav breed stories, not the best but pretty darn close. I went back and looked at my review for the last Breed novel that was released and I was not so much of a Deeper than Midnight. I went back and looked at my review for the last Breed novel that was released and I was not so much of a fan, so DTM has truly redeemed this series in my eyes. The last books was highly erotic with so much sex that even I complained about it and for those who are a fan of Sam, know that there is never too much Sex. And even in books before that the story was more focused on action and Dragos this and Dragos that, but DTM delved a little more into the actual lives of the Breeds and has roughly three story lines going on at once. We got to find out more about Gideon and Savannah, we see a new life bought into the Breed world, and Chase (Harvard) got a massive amount of page time to set up for his book and offcourse Lucan and Gabrielle. Obviously at the start I felt like I was reading about Arni in the terminator – he was all robotic and stiff as a freaking bored! But once me and my girl, Elena worked out that, Hunter was a still a big Virgin, had not groped no boobies or even played slap the monkey from time to time, well this began to be so much more than a enactment of the terminator and more of a discovery of Hunters self and his very very high libido! YEEHAW! But wait! There was a story in there. We met Corinne in the last Breed book. She had been freed from Dragos’s prison after almost 75 years of captivity. She is paired up with Hunter who is given the mission of delivering her back to her Dark haven home and her mother and father. But secretly Corinne wants to find her son, Nathan that she gave birth to some 13 yrs before while she was in captivity. When her and Hunter arrive at her Dark haven home and realize her parents have betrayed her, she and Hunter start an adventure that ultimately leads them to her son. Corinne and Hunters story was just...awwwwwww. Both were so new to the world of love and tenderness that it was almost heartbreaking. There wasn’t bonking in every scene, these two took their time and got to know each other and shared private moments and secret kisses before delving into the world of Breed mating. The fact the Hunter was a virgin was so cute! But for a man who had no prior experience he did mighty well for himself. No one pump wonder for this trained assassin! Offcourse, both were harbouring secrets from one another that ultimately came out and the shit hit the fan, but that’s almost predicable in every single romance novel, isn’t it? I liked the concept of Corinne having her son. I even had this silly notion in my head that somehow Hunter was his father but I was wrong. The ending for Corinne and Hunter was nice. It’s not what I would have preferred but it was still an ending and they had closure. As for the rest of the Breeds well all I can say is ......................... Cliff Hangers ARE.NOT.COOL. I like closure with my stories, with a well set up story line for the next novel, but leaving me hanging like a yoyo!??!?! OMDAYUM! Everything just went to shit at the very last possible moment for the rest of the Breeds and then I was turning the pages hungrily and then NOTHING! And how long do I have to wait to see what happens? NEXT YEAR! Im going to die! Okay, so maybe that’s an exaggeration on my part but that’s how I feel. My countdown starts now.

In every one of these books, we get a description of each woman's blood scent. At first, it was common things like vanilla, roses, honey & almond... Like some sort of weird scented candles. And, like scented candles, eventually you just run out of ideas. So, the female in this book had blood that smelled like "dark bergamot and tender violets." Huh? What the hell's a bergamot? I actually looked it up and it said that it's a "pear shaped orange of the Mediterranean." Uh, okay.... I feel sorry In every one of these books, we get a description of each woman's blood scent. What will their blood smell like? and Hey, if they do one of those omnibus things where a bunch of books are combined, maybe we can get this scent: It's what it smells like after an axe murderer gets to all of the women at once! Anyway.. This was an awesome book in the series because it was about Hunter, the guy who was raised to be an unfeeling assassin. He has no emotions and doesn't understand them. All he understands is killing people. I think I'm in love!! Hunter is charged with taking one of the rescued women from the last book home. Things don't go so well and they end up on the run. And, since it is Hunter, they leave a trail of dead bodies behind them. Kind of like the bread crumbs that Hansel and Gretel left to find their way back. Only bloodier. Watching the emotionless Hunter fall in love was a lot of fun. Also, the war between the good vampires and bad vampires really stepped it up a notch. Oh, and a baby vampire was born. Awww, he wants his baba of blood. Isn't that cute!

She was a prisoner all her adult life. Mark place: Back of right hand Settings: Boston, Detroit, New Orleans, Luisiana, West-central Georgia Even if it is a book full of violence, I believe it is also the most emotional and the sweetest of the midnight breed series. We know Hunter from before. There are certain facts about him that we already know: He used to be a top assassin in Dragos'army until he managed to get rid of his collar, always calm and confident and successful, he was considered unemotional but he was also Mira's best friend and they were reading books together, Brock found him sleeping naked against the wall because according to him beds are such a luxury. We have met Corinne before. She was a prisoner of Dragos and she was set free from the Order, Brock used to be her bodyguard before she was kidnapped by Dragos, Brock thought she was dead before they found her. BUT and this is a strong BUT, in this book we learn all the dirty details about Corinne. She was kidnapped, tortured, raped, experiment on, used to create the new Dragos'army, impregnated and broken. She is about to discover also dirty, dark secrets about her family. Hunter and Corinne are two lost souls, tortured by the same monster, both virgins. Hunter has never actually been with a female. Corinne was repeatadly raped but she has never made love. It is the most natural thing for them to get connected, matched and mated. Moreover, this particular book sets the scene for the next final book of the first part of the series. Besides Hunter and Corinne's story that covers most of the book, Chase keeps destroying himself. The book finishes with a cliff hanger. Have the next book next to you ready, before you finish this one!!!

She was adopted into a loving family, and she had a whole life ahead of her. But then the worst happened, she was taken, imprisoned, raped and tortured for years. Finally, she was rescued by the Order and she then meets the man who is to take her back home to her parents. Hunter joined the Order after leaving the only life he had ever known working for Dragos and found freedom with the Order. Hunter found a way in a life to fight for what is right. Then he meets Corinne. A young woman of beauty and strength who has suffered unimaginably, and as they join forces to discover certain truths behind the works of Dragos. What they discover is that Dragos has a evil scheme ahead for the Order, and it will take their combined efforts to come out on top . Plot and Story Line  This is a story I have been waiting for, for quite some time now. I have been eager for Hunter's story ever since he switched sides. I have always loved him, we have seen the good in him even from the beginning and it has been truly wonderful to see his change over the past few books!! Now this is a story that deals with some hard issues and wasn't always easy to read. But that is what I loved about this book the most...is seeing a story evolve that discusses hard matters and creates a beautifully woven romance to keep you asking for more. In this boook, I was overwhelmed with the heroine especially. She is one tough cookie, I loved her fighting spirit and her couragous nature. She never gives up even if it seems hopeless. She is determined to find her son that was taken from her when he was born. Even despite the fact that he might not be what she pictured, she will do anything to show him....the love of a mother and guide him away from all that he has been trained to do....be a killer. This is where Hunter comes into play in aiding her come to terms with the past. Hunter is a character that has committed horrible acts because of his training, but we see the truth of spirit in his character and we see more of his past. The romance that develops between these two is quite wonderful, there were moments I felt a bit disconnected but not enough to keep me from enjoying the story and the way this couple comes together when they need each other the most. The Cover  I love blue covers, especially in PNR....and this cover truly fits the bill. I love the blue moonlight effect. Overall View  Deeper Than Midnight is a story that is thrilling with adventure, exciting in new shocks and some spicy romance that leaves you aching. Truly a wonderful addition to a fabulous series. Finally! I managed to get a solid 4 star read out of this series! I wouldn't go so far as to say that Deeper Than Midnight was on the same level as the BDB's story of Z and Bella, but I loved Hunter's journey here for a few of the same reasons that I loved Z's. Hunter was not a part of the world; he was just existing, doling out vengeance whenever he could. Corinne came along and showed Hunter how there was more to life than just existing. I would have loved to have seen Hunter's transformation happen a bit more organically (he sort of shook himself out of his ignorance to start, before Corinne helped further the process, which seemed unnatural), and I would have loved more time for Hunter to come to terms with how little human vampire interaction he truly had in his life. However, I get it. The author can't all-of-a-sudden make a series book longer than the other books, just to expand on one character. This might also be the first book in which it felt like there was an ample amount of tie-in back with the other members of The Order, so that might possibly be what robbed from some of Hunter's story. I know, I can't have it both ways. I ask for more of The Order and we finally got it...at the expense of the main couple. I was almost pissed about the way that the book ended (view spoiler)[there was nothing more than a 10 second reunion between mother and son with no backstory on the kid (hide spoiler)] , until I realized that the character I wanted to see more of had an upcoming book revolving around his PoV, so hopefully I'll get to learn more about him later. Overall, I'm happy. And surprised.

Let me start with what I love about this book. I loved the 1st half. The writing, the premise, and the plot twists alone, were written superbly. This one has alot of suspense, a trade mark to the Breed novels. I love that I got to touch base with all of the Warriors & their mates. U can't help but to care about them all and just because their books ended doesn't mean they are no longer important to us readers. Hunter, of course! What is not to love about this strong, silent "Hero" Even though we only met him 4 books prior, he was immediately intriguing to me. I wanted to know this guy's story. I felt very protective of him. Even though he had yet to show us if he would be an ally or enemy to the Order. All I knew was that I wanted Hunter to know some of the beauty this world has to offer. Knowing where he came from, his very existence in the only world he knew & what he endured was just heartbreaking. I do like that we get a more than brief preview of our Beloved Chase as well. I do think that he was just as front and center as Hunter was & was sort of approaching that thin line of taking the spot light, but not quite crossing it. Thank Goodness! Cuz this is Hunter's story and we'll have Chase soon enough. But it is a good set up for his book next year.. Now with all this, the reason why I give this one a 3.5 star rating is due to Corinne & Hunter's chemistry or lack there of. I did not care for her even when we got her back story from Brock in his book. I was a little worried when it was revealed that she would be Hunter's love interest. But I took it in stride hoping to be pleasantly surprised. NO such luck. I'm sorry 2 say. This pairing left much to be desired. The intensity that you felt with the other mates was not even present with these two. And I was hoping because of the type of Breed Hunter is, that once these foreign feelings of love, caring, possessiveness, & sexual awakening took hold of him, it would prove to be even more intense. Just because these are feelings he has never known, it would seem 2 be the natural progression that would occur. But it didn't. The romance with he and Corinne fell flat to me. And there is nothing present in her personality or otherwise that complimented him. They were just not "yin" to the other's "yang"... Lastly, the ending.. There was just something missing and I can't quite put my finger on it. There were things that were pleasantly surprising & obvious cliff hangers. But the writing became choppy, and the emotions displayed came off as rushed with a half hearted attempt at sincerity or depth of the emotional conflicts displayed in certain scenes during the last 4 chapters. Overall this book was still a pretty good read & a good addition to this series. I just feel that for my beloved Hunter, Ms. Adrian could have done a much better job. Although these books can be read as stand alones I would highly recommend you follow this series in sequence. Overall I think this series is excellent. And I recommend this read.

I did feel that Corinne had an easier time being with Hunter than I would have thought. And Hunter? He sure figured out "what" to do! It probably wouldn't be nice to have their story be more than just one book....maybe have more going on as a background story before they go to theirs but it is what it is. My favorite line: "Thank you for bringing me home." Love that. I also liked the little twist regarding someone from Corrine's past. I look forward to how that will play out. I really enjoyed knowing more about Gideon and Savannah...even though it wasn't a lot. They've been there from the beginning but we don't really know much about them. Here's hoping we get to know more in the future! Savannah's sister, Amelie, was hysterical. This bust me up: “Besides, you two don’t need me hanging around eavesdropping when you’d rather be alone. I may be blind, but I ain’t blind.” And FINALLY!!!! (view spoiler)[ Welcome Baby Xander!! (hide spoiler)] Now let's talk Chase. I've never liked him and especially with regards to his treatment of Elise. But I respected how he started working for the Order and was doing a good job ~ most of the time. I knew that in order for him to be redeemed that Lara Adrian would have to have him do some horrible things. I think it could've been much worse but I liked how she handled him. Definitely looking forward to his story and....Miss Fairchild's? Yep, I'm pretty sure it's her and I can't wait.

I love the world building and was completely into all the arcs and threads coming together and weaving in and out. I was pretty disappointed in this as Hunter's story though. As I said, we barely see his and Corinne's romance, and I don't think we got to really delve into his character. So yeah, read this as just a world-building bridge in the series and the continuing war against Dragos and definitely not for the romance.

When he read how he loved his mother and wanted her touch and warmth when he was young, and that inadvertantly gotten her killed, we shed a tear right along w/ him. It was very touching. Corinne. Now, while I've read some reviews that didn't care too much for her, I'd have to agree AT FIRST. When we got the backstory of exactly what she went thru at the hands of Dragos, and what she had lost and then the betrayal upon her return home.........I grew to respect her tremendously. She never broke. Not once...........gotta love that. Dante, Tess and the birth. I wish we would have gotten a bit more but I loved what we did get. Dante is my favorite of all the warriors. Those two pages had me in tears.......... Chase's storyline. Wow, I didn't see that coming! I knew he was angry at the world but didn't guess where he was sliding....... The cliffhanger and the little snippet we got about the next book. WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!! What I didn't like or had questions about: Corinne and Hunters story in general. I wanted MORE. The book should have been about 100 pages more so we could get more details, more feelings, more SEX between these two. Hunters uh......bedroom skills. lol Um........he was a virgin, untouched and yet he made love to Corinne like a seasoned PRO! I didn't quite buy it. I wanted more detail from the sex scenes, they felt really rushed to me. Corinne's family situation. As awful as it was, I wanted to know what happened to her mother and to Mason! Did Hunter ever tell Corinne that her father was dead? Corinne never talked to her mother after she left and I didn't like that unfinished. Chase's story. I know, I put it up there w/ what I liked it but I also thought it overshadowed Hunter and Corinnes story a bit. I was thinking that it would have been better if a lot of what we read about Chase was the prologue of HIS book. It could have taken place at the same time as Hunters book. I dunno, just thought too much was devoted to Chase and it took away from Hunters story. Jenna. What's going on w/ her? We get a paragraph that her dermaglyph is spreading and that she's faster, stronger and heals much quicker and THAT'S IT! Come on Lara, don't leave us hangin! Is she turning into the first female breed or what? lol (I personally would LOVE to see her give birth to a GIRL, that would make history and take the breed into unknown territory) The ending w/ Chase doing what he did. First off, in Dante's book, when Dante, CHASE and Niko went out in the daylight to rescue Tess, ALL of them were head to toe in black UV protective gear complete w/ wrap around UV protective glasses, and even THEN they still got a little smokey and their eyes burned. Chase just walks out of that mansion in full on day w/ NOTHING? He woulda started to smoke at least, I would think. Then, I'm sure he was thrown into the back of some law enforcement vehicle and still didn't go up in flames? Unless HIS book starts off w/ him jumping out of the car and escaping, I don't think that scenario was possible. The law enforcement. Now, they chase down suspected TERRORISTS onto the grounds of a mansion, kill the 3 in the truck, CHASE surrenders and that's it? They don't storm that house w/ bomb sniffing dogs, forensics etc to look for other people, evidence etc? THAT scenario was not believable at all. Hundreds of law enforcement would have been all over that place in a New York minute, investigating, regardless of Chase doing what he did. Well.....before my characters on this stop, we'll wrap this up. lol The next few books will be EXPLOSIVE, action filled and will take this story to the next level I believe..............I can't wait!!!!

I would have rather had more time focused on Corine/Hunter's relationship. The last half of the book I'd rate only 2 stars (not bad but just ok). It felt like the author cranked the last parts out quickly due to deadline challenges. My first issue with the last half was the relationship between Hunter and Corine. I just didn't buy it. It was way too rushed and the author didn't make me feel their emotional connection. I was rolling my eyes when they said the 'I love yous' b/c it seemed forced/fake. And it didn't seem believeable that after the years of rape, torture, etc. she'd be wanting sex with a someone so quickly. It didn't seem realistic how quickly she bounced back from years of abuse. I found Hunter interesting in the earlier books, and liked his continuing story--especially the parts when you were in his head. However Corine was lacking as a lead charater. Her character could have been developed better, and I just didn't connect with her. I expected more for his story. The book ended too abruptly. I turned the pages looking for more pages thinking THAT's IT??? It's a cliffhangerish type of an ending. Romance fans, rest assured there is an HEA for Corine/Hunter. But I guess we'll all have to wait until the next book to see what happens with the other plot threads.

I do love a freed assassin who is no longer forced to kill against his will and for the wrong cause. ;) The parallels between what Dragos did to both MC's made for a compelling read. I will say, I wanted more of these two and less POV switches to other characters. I neither believed not liked Corinne. (view spoiler)[It was really hard for me to get past how well adapted she was after so many years in captivity. Falling into Hunter's arms fairly quickly after being released from decades of torture. I also kept thinking she could make smarter decisions like not keeping her son a secret for so long from the people most likely to be able to help her. Last point about her that stumped me is how she could become bonded to Hunter after sharing each other's blood but not have become bonded during her captivity when she was forced to both, give and receive blood from her captors. (hide spoiler)] I had hoped for better for Hunter. I would have liked more page time devoted to his adapting to the idea of a mate. Everything happened rather quickly between him and Corinne. Again, I had a hard time believing either of those characters could fall so quickly in love. Last, but certainly not my least complaint, is Sterling Chase's plot arc. WTAF? Was that really necessary? To top off my certain bitchiness about this book, it ended on a cliffhanger. *sigh* I WANT to write five star reviews. I REALLY DO! I'm even willing to nudge a 4 star up. I just need a 4-5 star book to read first.

I wanted this book to be so much more because I have been obsessed with Hunter from his first appearance, so I'm sorry to say that I was disappointed... The story was sweet and nice but I wanted more from this amazing hero ... I wanted passion, an explosion of emotions, a heroine who would transform him. Well, Corinne was never that. She was this plain and boring girl who never reacted too strong to anything. I just felt like Hunter changed because he got in love with her but not because of her. She was this plain and boring girl who never reacted too strong to anything. I just felt like Hunter changed because he got in love with her but not because of her. I mean, he did make a little change by feeling something stronger than what he usually felt, but he never dramatically changed and that was the thing I wanted the most for him. Was it too much to ask? I wanted one of those strong heroines who knows what they want in life and make me laugh out loud with those witty and ingenious comments. This girl was way too shy and average, and the only thing I can remember about her was that she wanted to rescue her child ... that was the only memorable thing about her and it's not even something that really describes her as a person, I mean yes it lets us know she is a great mother and someone who would do anything for those she loves, but I need much more to get to love a heroine. The plot was great though, but it could have been better. It was kinda more of the same. I think the author got too much into the plot and forgot a bit about the main characters. Too much pages used to describe a plot that just got nowhere. There were not many important changes if there was even one. Dragos is still on the loose and trying to kill all the members of the Breed. I don't know, I guess I just wanted more from this series. I just want the series to go back to what it use to be. I miss those book where we got to read about great heroines with their own lives. I loved to read how their lives make a dramatic change once they met the hero. I need the author to go back to describe better the heroine. In the last books the heroines just felt like an addition of the hero. I want more for them. And with the heroine of this book I think it was just too much. The girl was really not heroine material. I also need a change, I mentioned this in the previous book and I still think the same. This series just got too predictable. With next book this definitely can be achieved so I hope the author realizes this and make some mayor changes to the series.

And no it wasn't between Hunter and Corinne. lol This book was so much darker to me than the previous books. The horror of what Corinne went through. Ugh... My heart went out to her. I love Hunter discovering emotions. That was such a treat. There were things about him that I didn't know much less thought about . But then I was grinning cause he was just to cute even though he is a hard core warrior. I loved loved loved all the tender moments that they shared. Gah the way it ended!!!!! Man oh man I have to wait another year.. So not fare. I need to know about Chase..... Dang it!

Maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind when I read this book, but I just didn't really like it. I think mostly because there seemed to be two stories going on at once. I had been so excited about reading Hunter's story, and then he has to share it with Chase. I found myself getting into Chase's part of the story more than Hunter's. Still worth reading, but not nearly one of my faves of the series. It did set up the next book pretty well, though.

OMG!!! What just happened? It all hit the fan in the final pages and then it just stopped. AARRRGHHHHHHH!!!! OK, OK, deep breathe. First, let’s talk about Hunter… “Born and bred to be a weapon wielded by the merciless hand of the Order’s chief adversary, he was long accustomed to viewing the world in logical, unemotional terms. First, let’s talk about Hunter… “Born and bred to be a weapon wielded by the merciless hand of the Order’s chief adversary, he was long accustomed to viewing the world in logical, unemotional terms. He no longer served the villain called Dragos, but his deadly skills remained at the core of who, and what, he was. Hunter was lethal - unfailingly so.” Ooohh, the enigmatic Hunter. The most mysterious and guarded of the Order boys. We got to see his personal side a little in the last book – but just enough to realize that he really has no personal side. He is a hunter. That is all. And that is why I loved seeing him discover a whole new side of himself. Because despite being the most lethal and level headed assassin in the Order, Hunter has a beautiful innocence about him. He hasn’t lived a normal life, and has never known love or compassion. So when he meets Corrine and starts having feelings for her, and then acting on those feelings, it’s all very new to him, and watching him experience that is just gorgeous, and oh so swoony! “I never knew what it was to crave a woman’s touch. Or to hunger for a woman’s kiss.” “And now you do?” she asked hesitantly. “Since I met you, Corinne Bishop, I’ve been thinking of little else.” I really liked Corrine. Rescued from the clutches of Drago after decades of abuse and torture, she is tormented by all that she endured, but she hasn’t let it break her, and has stayed strong in spite of it all. When Hunter is assigned to protect her, she finds herself drawn to his strength and calmness, but she soon begins to see the more sensitive side of him, and despite all she has been through, she starts to fall for him. I love that she was brave enough to let herself feel for him, and help him acknowledge what was happening between them. Their relationship was really beautifully developed, considering their inexperience and all that they had both been through, and it felt very real. But all the while that Corrine is accompanying Hunter on his mission, she has an agenda of her own… one that is in direct contradiction to his, and has the potential to tear them apart (view spoiler)[ But in actual fact, it’s all handled really well, and I loved the way that it all played out – although I did feel the ending was a little bit cheesy (hide spoiler)] . But there is soooooooo much else that happens in this book! Chase! OMG, what is happening to poor Chase! His downward spiral has been happening for a while, but he hits rock bottom in this one, and it was heartbreaking to watch! Although we do meet this future love interest, Tavia, his story is left on a MASSIVE cliffhanger! There’s a lot of action as the Order get closer to Dragos, and he steps up his plans, making a number of strikes against our boys and their mates, the last of which is massive, and public, and places all of the residents of the Compound in great danger, and at risk of exposure. Things are changing in the Order, and we get to see Lucan’s POV as he struggles in his role of head of what is now essentially a large family rather than a group of warriors. His family is under direct threat, and his protective side comes out as he moves to defend those closest to him. “The Order will not splinter," Lucan replied, terse with fury for what Dragos was forcing them to consider. "We are warriors. Brethren. We are kin. We will not let anyone scatter us in terror." Gideon nodded, solemn and silent. "Yeah," he said, meeting their gazes. "Fuck me, right? Totally crap idea. I don't know what the hell I was thinking.” Adrian is also starting to set the scene for future books in the series with the introduction of new characters, and the establishing of links that will play a part down the track. And on a happy note, there is also a long awaited birth that finally takes place and (this may sound weird) it is an absolute swoon fest! Every woman needs a Breed male at her side while she gives birth, that’s all I’m gonna say! (Although, if you're interested, this is an excerpt from the scene in question… (view spoiler)[ “Dante bent his head down beside her face and whispered private words of encouragement, things meant only for Tess. Praise for what was giving him tonight, and pledges of devotion for her that he couldn’t adequately express in feeble words. He held her hand as the final contraction twisted through her. He shouted with joy as his son finally appeared, a tiny, pink, squirming little bundle held aloft and squalling in Savannah’s expert hands. And he wept without shame as he met Tess’s beautiful, elated gaze in that next moment, loving her with every particle of his being. He leaned over and kissed his amazing Breedmate, pulling her into his embrace and sharing the euphoria of this precious moment of their lives together.” Sniff! (hide spoiler)] ). So, the awesome continues, and the final book in this part of the series is set up beautifully! I am so ready for the big climactic finish!

So excited to finally get Hunter's story.  He, more than any of the Breeds, made me feel for him, want him have some measure of happiness to balance what he has already been through. Hunter is a Gen One Breed, born and raised to be a weapon against the Order.  He is no longer an enemy, instead an ally and a part, but he is lethal and seemingly emotionless.  Particularly in the first chase scene with Murdock and the fight with the assassin, you get to see how genuinely bad ass Hunter really is.   So excited to finally get Hunter's story.  He, more than any of the Breeds, made me feel for him, want him have some measure of happiness to balance what he has already been through. Hunter deserved more of the story to himself.  The book is almost a split between Hunter and Corinne's story and the decline of Sterling Chase.   Sterling is succumbing to Bloodlust, and the Order is trying to deal with this, in addition to all the drama of Dragos.  Sterling actually drained and killed while feeding, which makes him reprehensible and I wonder how he will be made back into a hero type of character.  All of this, I realize, is a set up for Sterlings book, I'd rather have had more of Hunter and Corrine.   Corrine has been tortured, caged and bred by the ancient. She was rescued, with other Breedmates, by the Order and mates.  She had a son while in captivity and she is focused in finding him.  The betrayal by her adopted father slowed this down, but didn't in any way deter her from it.  Corrine was difficult for me.  She, like Hunter, has been through so much, maybe even more due to repeated betrayals by Victor.  However, she does things, such as forcing Hunter to drink from her to help find her son while bonding him to her, that make her less sympathetic. She lies to him, pushes him away and then is surprised when he doesn't talk to her. I liked her a little better by the end, but she won't ever be my favorite character of the series.    The ending of this book was such a cliffhanger to the next one, it was off putting.  While I would of course read the next one (Sterling Chase), I am not a fan of stories that end seemingly in the middle of a chapter, which is what this seemed like.  Nathan's storyline also ended that same way, just an open door to a new book, but that seemed less aggressively done than this.  A slightly irritating ending to a very well done book.

I guess expectations are everything. I’ve been looking forward to Hunter’s book since his first appearance on page. But some of my fellow reviewers warned me that his book might let me down. So I started the story expecting very little and ended up pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t exactly the story I expected, but I enjoyed it. The reason I was so jazzed about Hunter having a book is because he is both a tortured hero who has never known love, and he’s a virgin. Both are right up my alley. The thing is, though, this book wasn’t about Hunter so much as it was about his heroine. Of course, we get time with him, but Corinne was the real focus here. That’s why it wasn’t what I expected and probably why some readers were disappointed. The virginity part was very understated. And the tortured hero/ loveless life thing was not very angsty. Most of the feels we got came from Corinne. We met the heroine at the end of the last book. She was one of the Breedmates rescued from Dragos’ compound. As this story begins, all she wants is to return home to her family. Hunter offers to bring her there. He sees something of a kindred spirit in Corinne –and a quiet strength. The more time he spends with her, the more he learns of the depths of her suffering. At the same time, he begins to feel things with her he has never felt in his life, both physically and emotionally. This, as he hides the vision he saw of her in little Mira’s eyes. As we learn more about Corinne’s history, it’s impossible not to sympathize with her and her loss. And it was very easy to root for her match with Hunter. I was kind of surprised at how easy it was for her to open up to him sexually with her history of rape. It was really the only part of the romance that gave me pause, because, honestly it was a bit easy. Not what you’d think for two lost souls such as this. We spend a lot of time with cutaways to Sterling Chase. My guess is that his book is next. Now there is some guaranteed angst. This guy is so messed up. But honestly, I found myself a bit annoyed at how much time his downward spiral took away from the romance. Hopefully, that will pay off in the next installment. Overall, it was a fairly good read, but it didn’t bowl me over. And I found the end a little abrupt (for the second book in a row. Is this a new thing with the series?) Rating: B/B-

3 stars. After anxiously waiting for Hunter’s story, I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. The overall story was good; it moved forward and gave us insight of the changes that are coming. Some good action scenes, but there was not enough dialogue for my taste. Lots of description and thought out feelings that just went on and on. I did enjoy the involvement of the characters from the previous books, which was good to a point. I know that Chase’s book is next and there has to be somewhat of 3 ½ stars. The blood bonding which is one of the most passionate and intimate aspects of the book…well…it sort of feel flat. I kept waiting for more and…nothing. With the other couples you really felt that primal connection. Hunter was a virgin; you would think he would want to test the waters, if you know what I mean. Corinne’s sexual connection with Hunter was ho-hum at best. It was like, come on Corinne you got this big bad boy naked, now do something with him! Maybe my problem with it was a big part of the previous stories is the discovery of the Breedmate, the H’s reaction to her, and her reaction upon finding out what she is. In this case, Corinne knew what she was, as did everyone else, and the allure of that was missing for me. Oh Hunter, he’s still one of my favorites even if his book wasn’t. I just wish Ms. Adrian would have paired him with a mate that would have brought out a little more of the vampire in him.

Lower still, the tightness was worsening by the second, his sex stirring, stiffening with the sudden upticking rush of blood through his veins. He growled quietly under his breath, though whether from shock or shame, he wasn’t sure. He didn’t want to feel this curiosity for her, this unwelcome sexual awareness. He’d been trained – disciplined without compromise from the time he was a boy – to be above base needs or desires. Yet he could not wrest his attention away from Corinne Bishop now. It’s safe to say that I’ve been waiting (craving, needing, heck even panting!) for Hunter’s book since he first showed up in the series. There’s just something about a tortured hero that makes me crave his story. Hunter was born to be a fighter, a killer. He had no choice in his future as one of Dragos’s Gen One assassins, but he was able to get out from under his control and join forces with the Order. He’s had a rough go of it, trying to figure out how to fit in, maybe not really caring if he does, but his main focus and one and only goal is destroying Dragos and all his followers. From the moment little Mira basically saved his life and showed him a vision of his future, he’s slowly becoming a changed man. While he still often sees himself as a killing machine and nothing more, his humanity is coming through, at first due to his fierce protection of Mira and now because of Corinne. From the first moment he sees her, he’s drawn to her in a way he can’t understand. But we know why…and I couldn’t wait for their story to begin. It took me a few pages to remember how we know Corinne. At the end of the previous book, she was in the group of Breedmates rescued from being held in one of Dragos’s facilities. Their reason for capture was heartbreaking, being abused and used to give birth to generations of Gen One killers. Corinne fought and through all the torment, her will and her vow to find someone very important to her kept her going and she’s above all else a survivor. After being rescued and having been away from her adoptive family for decades, Hunter escorts her home and the reality of the circumstances surrounding her abduction many years ago are brought to light and are even more devastating than we can imagine. Hunter is tasked with protecting her further as the Order’s headquarters have been compromised and a battle is heading right for their front door. Hunter and Corinne’s story is so sweet, as we have 2 people, one a virgin and one who’s never been with a man of her own choice, brought together and learning to love and trust the other person. It’s hard for them both, especially Hunter, as he’s been taught from birth to believe that emotion and love are weaknesses and can have no part in his life. The things that Corinne makes him feel, the bone deep knowledge that she is so much more to him, even if he doesn’t quite understand what that is initially, those feelings get stronger and stronger. They’re both there for each other during hard times, Corinne in her search for a missing person, Hunter in his realization of what happened to his mother during his childhood, these are 2 people who are trying to put the pieces of their lives back together and take steps to do that with each others help. His touch traveled along the tilt of his chin, then skated softly across her lips. “Intimacy was forbidden. It was a weakness to want physical contact. It was a flaw to desire anything, especially pleasure.” He kissed her again, a low growl rumbled deep in his chest. “I never knew what it was to crave a woman’s touch. Or to hunger for a woman’s kiss.” “And now you do?” she asked hesitantly. “Since I met you, Corinne Bishop, I’ve been thinking of little else.” To go from the Hunter we were first introduced to, a killing machine, to the man that Corinne helps bring out, I was SO happy for him. He never knew love, or a soft touch or a place to call home and through a lot of ups and downs he finds his way to all of that with Corinne. The Dragos storyline is heading down a fast path. There’s more buildup to what is sure to be an explosive final fight, and with the Order’s headquarters being compromised, we have Breeds on the move to a new location which will give a completely different feel to the next book. We also get plenty of Chase in this story, and it pains me to say, almost too much Chase. Chase is spiraling downward fast and we absolutely needed to see this happening to him prior to his book, which is up next. However, it did cut into Hunter and Corinne’s story a bit and it just felt like every time we were getting to really important scenes building up for them, it would cut away to Chase again. It’s not at all a knock against the story as a whole, I would have just liked to have had more Hunter and Corinne, since it was their story after all. The buildup to Hunter has been happening for some time and Chase stole a little bit of his thunder. Overall a great edition to the Midnight Breed series, Hunter’s book doesn’t disappoint and the set up for the next story due out early next year, makes me want to count down the days until it releases!

You might want to skip reading this review if you're not up to date with the series. If you're new to this series it is one I would highly recommend, it is absolutely my favourite paranormal romance series (for me even topping J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood books) and each book consistently manages to raise the standards and leave you desperate for the next installment. I would definitely recommend reading the series in order though starting with Kiss of Midnight. Deeper than Midnight picks up the story just after the ending of Taken by Midnight, Corinne and the other Breedmates have just been rescued by the Order from Dragos' lair and are still struggling to come to terms with the torture they have suffered for years. Corinne was his captive for 75 years and doesn't recognise the world she now finds herself in, she is desperate to see her family but scared that they will have forgotten her and nervous about how they will react when they find out what she has been through. Hunter was bred by Dragos from the ancient and raised as a lethal killer so he more than anyone else knows what Dragos is capable of. When he is given the task of returning Corinne to her family he finds himself inexplicably drawn to her but has no idea how to deal with his attraction. I have been a massive fan of the Midnight Breed series for several years now so I can't tell you how excited I was to get my hands on the latest installment! I feels like I've been waiting for Hunter's story forever so I couldn't start reading fast enough. Lara Adrian is my favourite author so be prepared for a bit of a fan girl review, she writes fabulous romances and the ongoing story arc about the Order and Dragos is full of suspense and intrigue that has me on the edge of my seat. Corinne has suffered unimaginable torture during the years that Dragos held her captive, the worst by far being the loss of her son who was taken from her moments after her birth. The only thing that kept her sane was the thought that one day she might be able to see him again and now she is free she is determined to track him down so they can finally be together. She will do whatever it takes to find him but she is unsure of who she can trust to help her. She is also desperate to see her family again but after finding out that they thought she was dead she is nervous about how they will react when they see her again. Corinne hopes that they will be able to help her find her son but would never have guessed at the reaction she gets when they see her. Hunter was raised by Dragos as a killing machine, as a Gen One Breed male he is strong, fast and powerful and he was trained from a young age to block out all emotion and focus on the task at hand. Since he was freed and joined the Order he has focused single mindedly on bringing Dragos down and killing anyone who is in league with him. He comes across as cold and emotionless but that is down to his upbringing, it was seen as a weakness to have feelings and Dragos would not tolerate weakness of any kind. Hunter is drawn to Corinne but he doesn't know how to deal with the feelings that she brings out in him, when it comes to love Hunter is as naive and innocent as they come but he can't deny his attraction. I loved watching Hunter and Corinne together, they both had terrible pasts but in their own ways are quite innocent, they are well suited to each other and make a great couple. We get to see plenty of the rest of the Order and life in the compound which I loved. Tess and Dante have some exciting news and let me just say that Dante stole my heart all over again (you'll have to read the book to find out why!). Dragos has been busy plotting against the Order and the warriors find themselves at greater risk than ever before, the action had me on the edge of my seat with my heart in my mouth and I'm still worried about how things will play out in the next few books. The scene has been set nicely for Chase's story, he has always been my least favourite character in the series, I'm not sure why but I never really took to him. I have to admit that my opinion has changed and I'm now really looking forward to his book. I had hoped to find out more about the changes taking place with Jenna but there was so much going on that I didn't really think about that until after I'd finished reading. The story is fast paced and action packed and I'm sure it will satisfy fans of the series. I will warn you that the ending almost killed me - I can't believe I've got to wait a whole year to find out what happens next! Believe me this is one you don't want to miss but make sure you've read the rest of the series before picking it up - once you're drawn into the world Lara Adrian has created you won't want to leave it.

This next story in the Midnight Breed Series was "Dynamite" as JJ from Goodtimes used to say. I am so glad that I don't pay attention to the reviews that these (so called readers) post. Believe me when I say I use the term very loosely because many of them I truly believe don't even read the books they comment on. But enough of my ranting and let's get started on my review. *****There Are Some Spoilers Mentioned***** I have been intrigued by Hunter from when we first met him in Nikolai and Renata's This next story in the Midnight Breed Series was "Dynamite" as JJ from Goodtimes used to say. I am so glad that I don't pay attention to the reviews that these (so called readers) post. Believe me when I say I use the term very loosely because many of them I truly believe don't even read the books they comment on. But enough of my ranting and let's get started on my review. *****There Are Some Spoilers Mentioned***** I have been intrigued by Hunter from when we first met him in Nikolai and Renata's story, "Veil of Midnight". It's not often that we see someone introduced in a story and they get their own book so soon and this author defied tradition when she did, which I applaud her for doing so. As we know Hunter was born and bred under the vile Dragos and he is an enemy not only to the order but to the world as a whole. Hunter is an assassin, his blood flows with Gen One. Hunter is calculating and kill a person a million ways to Sunday. After he saw his destiny in the eyes of the oracle, little Mira he had been devising his escape and it came when Dragos had to let him go. Once freed Hunter joined the Order and made the vow of finally killing Dragos and anybody else associated with him. Corinne Bishop was a spirited and carefree young woman when she was abducted at the age of 18 years of age. Corinne's life for 75 years have been of sheer brutality (included repeated rapes and beatings). Her only shining spot was giving birth to a baby boy, who was taken away from her to be raised as Hunter was, a Killing machine in the army Dragos has been breeding. Corinne's baby was what has kept her alive, kept her fire because she believed some way and some how she would find her son. After Corinne and the other women were rescued by the Order and their mates, Corinne wanted nothing more than to go back home to her family. The person who was to escort her home was Brock (her former bodyguard) and his mate Jenna, their story is "Taken by Midnight". But due to the Alaskan snow storms Brock and his mate Jenna were stuck and had to wait out the storms before traveling back to the United States. Hunter volunteered to take Corinne to her family, an answer that no one expected to come from him. The only person who didn't bat an eye is little Mira (the Oracle), she believes in Hunter wholeheartedly. The Head of the Order Lucan, gives his consent for Hunter to take her home, but what no one expected or could have foresaw was that Dragos had stepped up a plan to take down the Order, now with Hunter taking Corinne home and what should have been a happy family reunion turned into the greatest betrayal for Corinne and family secrets finally coming to light. Hunter has no choice but to go on the run to save Corinne and all seems to be going to hell in a hand basket. But where there is darkness, the light will soon follow to break forth and this is what happens in their story. Let me tell you what I enjoyed about this story, it was about two people who are the unlikeliest pair to get together, in a move we don't see often in books it is the man who is the virgin, brutality against a woman who had endured years of it and survived to not only come out on the other side of it but her determination to save her son and allow a man to love her. And honestly I can go on and on but I know you understand where I am coming from. Throughout the story we watch how Sterling Chase has begun to sink lower and lower, the bloodlust is trying to take over him. He has practically turned his back on the order but in a last ditch attempt to take down Dragos, Chase eyes connect with a woman who may be the salvation that he desperately needs. And in an act of protecting those who may no longer consider him a friend, he makes the sacrifice to save them thus setting up for his story which is next called, "Darker After Midnight". I can't wait to dive into his book next. Well Until My Next Review Ciao Bellas!
